A mega menu is a navigation item that opens not a narrow list but a wide area with several columns, images or notices. On shops and large websites it makes sense. On small business sites it is usually a sign that the structure is wrong.

Elementor itself is unremarkable in data protection terms. It gets critical with four components that almost every website uses — and which, on their default settings, transmit data to third parties before the visitor has agreed to anything.

I run training courses on Elementor and enjoy working with it myself. All the same, in roughly one first conversation in five I advise against it. Not out of affectation, but because a tool that does not fit the job ends up costing more than any licence.

The two get set against each other constantly, and that is already the first error of reasoning: they are not the same thing. Elementor is a page builder you combine with any theme. Avada is a theme that brings its own builder. That difference determines almost everything that follows.

The majority of your visitors arrive on a phone. Sites are nevertheless almost always built on a large screen — and the small view gets checked, if at all, right at the end. That is exactly where the problems come from that I most often repair in training sessions.

It happens rarely, but it happens: after an update the site looks different, a widget is missing, or the editor no longer loads. In that moment the most important skill is not troubleshooting but the quick way back. Elementor has one built in — many people simply do not know about it.

Putting updates off is the worst of all options — outdated software is the most common way into a WordPress site. Installing updates blind is the second worst. In between sits a procedure that costs ten minutes and makes the whole thing dependable.

Most Elementor problems are not Elementor problems. They come from the server, from the cache or from another plugin. Knowing that means you look in the right place and are done in minutes rather than hours.

Websites are not built slow, they become slow. Every plugin that was tried out and never removed, every font somebody once wanted to test, every template from a discarded draft — none of it is a problem on its own. Together they make a site that loads considerably more than it shows.

“Elementor is slow” is one of the most persistent claims in the WordPress world. It is not entirely wrong and yet it is misleading. A page builder generates more markup than hand-written code — that costs something. But what actually makes Elementor sites slow in practice is almost always something else, and those things can be fixed.

A landing page is not a prettier subpage. It has exactly one goal — an enquiry, a sign-up, a sale — and everything on it either serves that goal or does not belong there. That single difference decides more about the result than any design question.

There is a moment in almost every website project that repeats reliably: the blue needs to be a shade darker. What takes a minute on a cleanly set up website turns into a search operation across forty pages on one that has simply grown. The difference is made right at the beginning.
