When customers search in your area – "hairdresser Salzburg", "joiner Pinzgau", "web design Zell am See" – local SEO decides whether they find you or your competitor. In this guide I show you in seven concrete steps how to become more visible on Google as a business in Salzburg and the surrounding area.
Step 1: Optimise your Google Business Profile
The Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the single most important lever in local SEO. Fill it in completely: category, opening hours, phone number, photos, services. The more complete and up to date it is, the better your placement in the local map results.
Step 2: Establish NAP consistency
NAP stands for name, address, phone number. These three details must be identical everywhere – on your website, in your Google profile, in business directories. Even small deviations (for example "St." versus "Street") confuse Google.
Step 3: Create local landing pages
If you serve several locations, each one needs its own unique page – not copied, but with genuine local relevance. This works: my regional pages such as Web design Zell am See and Web design Pinzgau rank for their region precisely because of this.
Step 4: Actively collect reviews
Genuine Google reviews are a strong local ranking factor – and an anchor of trust for new customers. Actively ask satisfied customers for a review, and reply to every one, including critical ones. That shows both Google and people that you care.
Step 5: Local keywords in your content
Use natural, location-related terms in titles, headings and body text – but no keyword stuffing. "Tax advice for the hospitality sector in Salzburg" is better than the word "Salzburg" ten times in the same paragraph. Which fundamentals matter here is covered in my WordPress SEO fundamentals.
Step 6: Build local backlinks
Links from regional sources are particularly effective: local clubs and associations, business directories, cooperation partners, regional press. A single link from a respected Salzburg site is worth more than ten arbitrary directory entries.
Step 7: Don't forget technology and speed
Local searches happen predominantly on mobile. Your site has to load quickly and work flawlessly on a phone. For deeper technical measures, read Advanced SEO for WordPress.
